It is very difficult to separate from pain of physical origin. Most pain management centers now do not entirely separate pain of physical from pain of psychological origin but rather look at the amount each contributes to the pain experience and work towards it’s resolution. When considering pain of psychological origin, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association (4th revision) provides the following categories. somatoform disorders somatization disorder undifferentiated somatoform disorder conversion disorder pain disorder hypochondriasis body dysmorphic disorder somatization disorder, undifferentiated pain disorder associated with psychological factors pain disorder associated both with psychological factors and a general medical condition pain disorder associated with a general medical condition psychological factors affecting physical condition
